About me
My name is Junko Araki, and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland, licensed professional counselor in District of Columbia and Virginia, and board certified dance/movement therapist.
I am a Japanese/English bilingual practitioner with a background in dance, somatic psychology, and sport and performance psychology.
I became a counselor because I believe in the therapeutic power of creative expression and imagination.
As an adolescent, dance was a way for me to process and express difficult emotions and thoughts. As a counselor, I help my clients incorporate authentic experience and creative exploration into their day-to-day lives as a path toward healing, growth, and wellbeing.
With my belief that our physiology and psychology are inseparable, I use mindfulness-based, body-oriented interventions and creative experiential activities as therapeutic tools, along with verbal interventions.
My aim is to support my clients in trusting in themselves and making choices for the integration, understanding, and change they seek.
I am looking forward to working with you!
